An attempt to give a picture of Church life at St. Peter's with St. Andrew's.
St. Peter's Church is a very active church, from an evangelical tradition.
The main service on a Sunday morning is informal, with over half the congregation from overseas. We use a mixture of traditional and modern music. A strong epmhasis is put on preaching and worship. For morning services we tend to use "Common Worship" - the liturgy of the Church of england. After the service there is always tea and coffee and plenty of chat.
Our Sunday school meets during the morning service, and we have two groups - one for younger children and one for older.
There is a quieter service on Sunday evenings, with, normally, a more traditional form of service.
During the week there is a good mixture of "community" and "Spiritual" activities.
In terms of Community Activity, we have our Parent and Toddler Groups, our drop in, our "Fairtrade" stall, our paying-in point for the South Manchester Credit Union.
In terms of "Spiritual" activity we have worship at 9.00am on Mondays and Thursdays, our prayer lunch on a Tuesday and Bible Study Groups on a Wednesday.
Having said that, we don't see a difference between "community" and "spiritual" activities - it is all part of our service to God, our proclamation of the gospel which underpins all of our church life.
St. Peter's Church Building - a prominent landmark in Levenshulme - is a typical Victorian Church on the outside, but has been extensively re-ordered on the inside, with worship area, two meeting rooms and most facilities. It even has one room which was decorated for the "Changing Rooms" programme on the telly!
